going up against sarah palin. don't patronize her, make it rude, something where people will be offended. this time around he doesn't have to face that but has a female moderator. they both do. from the female, first female governor of michigan, i might add, do these two candidates need to watch their tone in way that perhaps the presidential debate candidates did not have to when dealing with jim lair? >> well, you know, i don't know they have to watch their tone relative to her. i think she's going to feel the pressure to take more control than jim lehrer apparently -- >> do you think they can walk over her and cut her off the way they did jim lehrer? you think it will be okay? >> i don't think she'll let them. she's going to do that for sure. >> that's your phone. did you not turn your phone off for a live interview on tv. >> it's so rude. isn't it? i can't believe it. what's going on? my phone is ringing! >> jennifer, i was going to let it go the first time, but whoever needs to call you, really need you now.

. >> the only other person to debate joe biden in a vice president debate is sarah palin. have you called her for advice? >> i have her. i only pet meth her once, and that was about two years ago. >> would you? >> sure, sure. >> can i call you joe? >> she famously or maybe infamously said that she wanted to call him joe because she kept calling him joe o'biden in debate prep. >> he knows me as paul, and i know him as swroe. i don't know. i haven't given much thought to that, to be honest with you. probably not unless he wants to make a case of it, but we know each other. actually we've gotten along quite well over the years. i like joe personally quite a bit. i just disagree with his policies. >> all right. dana is in danville, and, you know, we've all been trying not to say o'biden because it gets kind of cooky sometimes when you're mixing up all of the names here, but it's really -- >> that was sarah palin's problem. >> it's fascinating because you really had a chance to get to know paul ryan. you've talked with him. you interviewed him. you learned the most fascinating

sarah palin. that was an important debate. there is a lot of interest. i will admit there seems to be a greater level of interest in this vice presidential debate than any that i've been aware of in the past. and i hope a lot of people watch. i think they will. and as a result, i think the vice president will really do a fine job and then we'll move on. but, don, everything that happens between now and the next 26 or 27 days is going to be important. because this election is going to be so close. >> yeah. >> and everything is going to have significance that happens. >> governor strickland, thank you so much. when i said not going on and doing talking points, i thank you. we have such a short time together. i just want to make sure we convey to the american people the importance of tonight. so i appreciate you doing that. all right? thank you so much. >> well, thank you, don. you havy great day. >> you, too. >>> coming up next hour, we'll hear from the republican side when we talk to tennessee repr

palin. ryan looking to focus on s substance according to this adviser. you will recall at the last debate in denver everybody talking about zingers. where are the zing efforts? when will the zingers fly? by my count, mitt romney only fired off a couple of zingers during that presidential debate with president obama and so it's possible to see maybe the same tactic tonight for paul ryan. focusing on the substance and the issues and, you know, one thing that the romney campaign i think telegraphed is that paul ryan will go after those comments of joe biden we heard earlier this month at the event in charlotte talking about the middle class being buried. i think we can expect that to come tonight and heard from the obama campaign, the obama campaign talking about this editorial board meeting with "the columbus dispatch" during the which the gop nominee talked about what the health care plan might be and people with preexisting conditions without obama care to get health care at hospitals. that
